10th EUGEO Congress 2025

The congress will take place at the Austrian Academy of Sciences right in the historical city center of Vienna from Monday 8 September to Thursday 11 September 2025. It will include a series of keynotes, parallel sessions, and city walks as well as networking and social events throughout the four-day period. Some highlights include a welcome reception on Monday. Vienna is easily accessible and thus an ideal location to bring together geographers from across Europe. The Academy Campus in the historical city center of Vienna offers an environment with a rich cultural heritage. Together with the surrounding modern city and urban region of Vienna in Central Europe, it offers a geographical kaleidoscope of a changing Europe.

The congress is organized by the Institute for Urban and Regional Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. The Scientific and Organizational Committees, chaired by Dr Robert Musil, act in liaison with the Austrian Geographical Society (ÖGG) and the Geographical Institutes at Austrian Universities. The theme of ‘Geographies of a Changing Europe’ accounts for the transformation of both the disciplinary development and the substantial questions of geography in Europe.

Call for Papers

The Call for Papers for the 10th EUGEO Congress 2025 opens on November 29, 2024! We warmly invite scholars from across Europe and beyond to submit their contribution to one of the available sessions. The congress theme, “Geographies of a Changing Europe” explores the dynamic transformations shaping our continent, its landscapes, and its societies, offering a platform for diverse theoretical, methodological, and empirical perspectives in geography. The congress will take place at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna from 8 to 11 September 2025.

Sessions will be 1.5 hours long, accommodating 4 presentations. Session chairs will be responsible for reviewing the contributions submitted to their sessions, managing their session’s time effectively, and ensuring a smooth flow of presentations. Session chairs are also encouraged to circulate the Call for Papers within their networks to ensure broad participation and diverse contributions.

Submissions should contain a provisional title and a short summary (350 words) explaining the research question, the theoretical and methodological approach and, where applicable, the data used. Submissions should reflect the theme of the selected session and include 3–5 keywords to highlight key aspects of the research.
